“I’m enjoying this conversation, but I have to shift this to a fundraising Ask.”

This is a phrase I recommend you NEVER say. 🤐

Hear me out:

Here’s the #1 goal is for your fundraising conversation:
Craft your interaction so that you NEVER need an awkward transition into the actual moment of the Ask.

In my 5-Minute Fundraising Training, we spend a lot of time learning to craft an easeful arc to your fundraising conversation.

Here are 3 quick tips:

  1. FOCUS ON ACTIVE LISTENING

The basic principle is that you should always be actively listening to how THIS community member can be called into a deeper engagement with your org.

  2. FIND COMMON GROUND

If you focus on the elements of your org/project that you BOTH are passionate about, then talking about fundraising will be seamless and natural. Raising money is necessary for the livelihood of your org/project–let’s normalize discussing it!

  3. REMEMBER THAT “FUNDRAISING” IS INTEGRAL TO YOUR ORG ALL YEAR LONG

Make fundraising updates (& how the community member can help now) a regular item that you share as part of your regular updates.

Do you have any phrases YOU recommend never using in an Ask? (We’d all love to hear them!)

“Do you have any questions?” is just one of the phrases I explore in my FREE guide, “8 Phrases NOT to Use in Fundraising.”
